Significance of Radha Madhava Kalyanam
Significance of
R
adha Madhava Kalyanam
"Radha Madhava Kalyanam" is a symbolic event to celebrate Jivatma-Paramatma-Aikyam (union of individual conciousness with the universal consciousness). The celebration facilitates the incessant flow of mind towards the Lord, towards the Guru, a constant memory and remembrance of the purpose for which we are born as human.
Vrious padhathis or styles of marriage exist for Radha Madhava Kalyanam. Whatever be the style or padhathi followed the Bhava with which the Kalyanam is performed is the most important. The main difference between Radha Madhav Kalyanam and other Kalyanam like Meenakshi Kalyanam, Sita Kalyanam is that it is not actually a Kalyanam but only a Gaandharva Vivaham. The reasoning being that Radha was a Gopi and that Krishna never married a Gopi.
The general padhathi followed being that the day before the actual Kalyanam, there is a Poorna Ashtapathi performed followed by a Sampradaya Bhajan, Panchapathi, Pooja Upacharam, Dhyanam, Divyanaamam & Dolotsavam performed during the Night. The following day events comprise of Unchavruthi, Nischaya thamboolam, Mappillai Azhaippu, Maalai Mattral , Oonjal and Kalyanam.
According to another padhathi all of the events take place on one day and there are two parts to it – the Poorvangam and Uttarangam. The Poorvangam consists of Unchavruthi, Samgraha Thodaya Mangalam, Guru Dhyaanam which is the 22nd Kalyana Ashtapathi. The Utharangam consists of Gowri Kalyanam, Thaila snanam, Othi Iduthal (presentation of the Brides and Grooms dresses), Alankaram, Muthu Kuthal, Pravaram ( mentioning the Gothra parivaram of the bride and the groom), Kanya Dhanam, Thirumangalya dharanam, Nalangu etc. Another padhathi includes Deepa Pradakshinam into the sequence.
Though most of you may be aware of the importance, we thought to share once again the significance, so that all of you would participate in large number, which is what our Pujya and Revered Guru Sri Akka desires.
